Your donors exist.

Your data will tell us if you're actually reaching them.

Conscious Shift Consulting builds that infrastructure. We work with small and mid-size nonprofits that have genuine community roots and real donor relationships, and need the systems, strategy, and leadership to turn those relationships into a sustainable funding model.

The Challenge

The funding environment changed. Government grants and foundation support carried nonprofit development programs for decades, and that era is ending faster than most leaders planned for.

Organizations that come through this period will have two things in common. They will have real, cultivated relationships with individual donors. And, they will have the data infrastructure to know who those donors are, what motivates them, and how to reach them effectively.

If your organization is ready to build toward that, we should talk.

The work is focused and specific: a clear picture of what your donor data actually tells you, a moves management system built for the donors you have, and a development operation that reduces your exposure to any single funding source.

Grants are not a strategy. We help you identify and build revenue that holds regardless of the funding cycle, paid programs, fee-for-service models, membership structures, and other approaches suited to your mission and your capacity.

Funding Reality Audit

Before you build a stronger development program, you need an honest picture of what you're working with. We go into your donor data and your CRM and tell you what it actually shows: who your real donors are, where the gaps are, and what a credible path forward looks like.

Fixed scope. Fixed price. Most audits complete in three weeks.

Development leadership without the cost of a full-time hire. We work embedded in your team on a retained basis, building the donor relationships and systems your organization needs to reduce dependence on any single funding source.

A small number of clients at a time, by design.

Fractional Chief Development Officer

Conscious Shift Consulting is led by Shakira Ferrell, a development operations strategist with over 15 years of in-house and consulting experience across some of the country's most demanding nonprofit environments, from environmental advocacy, social justice, and legal services to the arts.

That range means we know what a healthy development operation looks like from the inside, and what a struggling one looks like in the data.

We intentionally work with a small number of clients at a time. The work requires honesty, focus, and real accountability. For us, none of that is possible at scale.

If your organization is ready to shift from reactive fundraising to a real development strategy, this is where that starts.

Why Us

Conscious Shift works best with organizations in one of three positions. You have donor relationships but no system to grow them. You need development leadership but can't justify a full-time hire. Or you're ready to build revenue that doesn't depend on the next grant cycle.

This is forward-building work, not crisis response. It works best with leaders who want an honest read on their organization, not reassurance. If you're not sure where you stand, that's worth a conversation.

Who This For

The first conversation is a straight talk about where you are and whether we're the right fit. No pitch, no proposal until we both know it makes sense.
